This one is a rather strange and peculiar album and quite at odds with what typically comes our way for us to review. Put briefly, Poldur's Gate Project released this 8-track disc of theirs last year and it is basically a metal/rock album where all the voices and music and whatnot have been synthesized using whatever godawful software out there to do so. Intrigued? If yes, you ought to calm your tits and take in what I just said about the entire disc being a synthesized effort where everything has been programmed, processed, sequenced, and manipulated digitally before you start getting all excited. I understand completely about "Directions" being a musical experiment where things have been conducted and undertaken in a somewhat unorthodox and non-traditional manner, but that does not change the fact that it is an awful record. The vocals and voices (for lack of a better term) are remarkably annoying and the riffs and melodies are so clichéd and stereotypical that it hurts. Granted, there are a few arrangements that are rather clever and even a couple of Maiden-esque melodies that are pretty catchy, but that is as far as it goes. Again, I understand the desire to experiment and try out new things, but this one is simply a failure in that it has not resulted in any worthwhile or even remotely engaging music. There is not an inch of passion, vigor, or emotion to "Directions" and it is therefore totally beyond me why any fan of rock or metal out there would want to acquaint themselves with this output by Poldur's Gate Project.
